Maximizing Space With Drawers

Signature White Kitchen Cabinets | Prefinished Cabinets | Lots of Drawers Maximize Space

Many of us have a big problem in our kitchen - Not Enough Space!

If you have a dated kitchen, you probably face space and organization challenges. If you're lucky, you might have a cabinet with all drawers. Unfortunately, many older kitchens were designed with simple cabinet bases featuring the standard small top drawer with a door on the bottom.

While these simple base cabinets are O.K., we all know what happens. Organization of the lower cabinet portion gets pretty tricky. You end up with all of your pots and pans stacked together and sometimes have your cookie sheets leaning to the side. Other cabinets hold your larger counter-top appliances with random Tupperware and Rubbermaid pieces stacked on and around. It's almost like a really small scary closet. Then, it never fails... you really need something from one of these cabinets. And where is it? In the very back on the bottom of course! So you get on your hands and knees, and start fishing for item. You unload everything on top and in front, then haphazardly have to shove it back in the cabinet. (Don't forget... you will have to do this all over again when you put the item back in it's place.)

If this sounds a bit too familiar, I feel for you, but there is a solution. Kitchens of today are being designed with a lot more functionality in mind. If you take a look at the kitchen pictured above, you may notice that it is actually a pretty tight space. Can you imagine having to crawl around on your hands and knees in such a tiny place? No, at some point you must throw in the towel and say, "I'm too old for this nonsense!"

This particular tiny kitchen space features multiple drawer base cabinets and completely alleviates this problem. These drawers are large enough to handle pots & pans, casserole dishes, baking sheets, and a variety of other kitchen items. Other items that need a taller space can still go in the standard base cabinet on the right, or the corner cabinets near the range. This is the best of both worlds. You can reach most everything from a standing position while the different levels of drawers help keep everything organized.

The above picture is actually a different view of the Signature White kitchen shown on our previous blog post entitled Prefab Cabinets vs. Custom Cabinets.
